After researching the keywords for the blog, the next step was to find a suitable and available domain name, a name containing the keywords.
When I first searched for “money blogging” , using the main keywords that I had already researched and chosen, the domain name with those two words was already taken, although was not an active site. Then I considered other short one word additions that I could make to the keywords and that would still result in a logical and easy to remember domain name.
It was fortunate that moneybloggingsuccess.com was available. The addition of “success” made sense and fitted well with the concept of the site.
When purchasing domain names, be aware that there are many additions offered to the purchase options. These are generally not really necessary and just add to expense, so consider choosing just the domain name without all the additional options to avoid unnecessary expense. The domain name should preferably be purchased for a period of at least two years, to receive favorable attention from the search engines.
The .com options are considered the best, unless you have a local business that you want to promote specifically to your country of origin. If you want to promote your “local” status then you may consider using an applicable domain, otherwise, go for the .com
It is best to avoid hyphenation in the domain name, and if it is used, to keep it to a minimum.
Avoid words that are difficult to spell or confusing.
An additional option I include when purchasing domains, is the Privacy option. If you purchase this with your domain name, your personal details, address, will not be displayed and the ownership of the site will be masked. This could be beneficial for security and to avoid issues of invasion of privacy.
